Modern Masters

Group Exhibition
21st May to 18th June, 2016
This exhibition celebrates the lesser known relationship between the 20th Century Modern Masters and their publishers, printmakers and ceramicists respectively. It is an opportunity to explore the creativity of each artist through the medium of their editions – it is a journey of collaboration.

The exhibition also includes fascinating unique works by Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque and Salvador Dalí, where one can see the immediacy of the artist’s hand and how the art of printmaking goes synchronically with preparatory studies.

We are honoured to have a selection of works which illustrate some of the most important, working practices of each artist, in particular seven Bon à tirer works from one of Joan Miro’s most important lithographic series. The Bon à tirer [good to print] are unique within an edition and include instructions from the artist to the printer to ensure the edition realises fully the desire of the artist.

The informal lecture will bring together unpublished, anecdotal stories about the archives of Hidalgo Arnéra, Picasso’s trusted linocut printer, as well as explore the friendships, partnerships and artistic collaborations that were forged on the Côte d’Azur by some of the 20th Century’s most respected and sought after artists. Highlighting the working practices of artist’s such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque and Joan Miró, to name but a few.

With a focus on printmaking, the exhibition illuminates the creative processes by which artists realised their artistic vision through the medium of editions.
