Artist talk and live performance Sunday 14 June, 1-3pm
Sunday 14 June - 12 July, by appointmentLemon Street Gallery is delighted to present Lovers Talk, an immersive collaborative exhibition by artist Sara Marlowe Hall and musician Matthew Zuk.
Blurring the boundaries between painting, sound, landscape, and memory, Lovers Talk unfolds as a sensorial exchange — an invitation to listen with the eyes and see through feeling. Created through movement, travel, and shared experience, the exhibition traces an evolving conversation between image and music, where gesture, atmosphere, and rhythm become a shared language.
Emerging from a two-week residency at The Amber Houses, the work drifts between the luminous coastline of Aegina and the untamed stillness of Withiel in the Cornish countryside. Across these distant landscapes, light, weather, and terrain leave their imprint on the work, dissolving the space between coast and countryside, intimacy and distance. Memory travels through colour, sound, and material — carrying one place into another.
Working within the garden and galleries at Withiel, Hall extends the act of painting into the landscape itself, responding instinctively to seasonal shifts, natural textures, and fleeting changes in light. Her works on paper and canvas feel both deeply rooted and transient — fragments of atmosphere held in gesture and colour.
Presented at Lemon Street Gallery, the exhibition brings together a new body of paintings and works on paper by Hall alongside live guitar performances by Zuk Zuk, whose compositions move through the space as an emotional and spatial counterpart to the visual work. Together, image and sound form an environment that is immersive, intimate, and alive.
Sara Marlowe Hall (b. 1991) is a Los Angeles–based multimedia artist. Hall studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig and received a BA (Hons) in Drawing from Camberwell College of Arts. She has exhibited internationally in London, Shanghai, Portugal, Leipzig, San Francisco, Abu Dhabi, and Los Angeles, and has participated in residencies including Varda Artist Residency, Poco a Poco, PADA Studios, and Salmon Creek Farm.
Originally from California, Hall and Zuk use travel as an artistic methodology, creating responsive installations shaped by place, encounter, and presence. Hall’s internationally exhibited practice meets Zuk’s globally performed soundscapes in a collaborative world where music and painting merge into a poetic and embodied experience.
Lovers Talk invites viewers to slow down, drift, and inhabit the space fully — through listening, looking, movement, and sensation.
