"In landscape, I try to extract rhythmic lines and lactated shapes from what is seen. These are sometimes echoed in other parts of the picture. The interpretation is not, therefore, totally visual – the painting becomes an equivalent to what is seen and takes on its own reality as it progresses."
This exhibition celebrates the life of artist David Martin who died earlier this year at the age of 96. Having exhibited at Lemon Street Gallery for almost twenty years, he will be hugely missed. My many visits to his studio where we would discuss his time at GSA, his love of music and his diverse and varied artistic influences will never be forgotten.
